battle zone, produced Chinese

claims today that the enemy had

been curbed in the China frontier

region and a Tokyo claim that on

the other side of Burma Japanese

forces were within four miles of India's

border.

offensive had cut into the Germans' communications

in southern Russia, by hints that the British were preparing

to open a second European front and by a clairri

that Japanese invaders were within four miles of India's

frontier.
