In North Africa,April 20.—The number of enemy planes shot down in
this theater Sunday and Monday now stands at the
staggering total of 112, including 70 Junker-25 transports,
Allied headquarters disclosed today

WASHINGTON, April 20.— With U S. army airmen attacking Kiska
almost hourly between dawn and dusk, the military situation in the
Aleutians today moved toward a climax that may determine .soon
whether the Japanese will be able to get their new airfield into operation.

In North Africa,April 20.—The number of enemy planes shot down in
this theater Sunday and Monday now stands at the
staggering total of 112, including 70 Junker-25 transports,
Allied headquarters disclosed today.
An official announcement revealed that 12 of the huge Junkers had been shot down Monday, instead of 10 as originally stated—in addition
to Sunday's bag of 58.
The successes against the big Axis troop carriers flying the vital supply route
between Sicily and Tunisia were scored by American, South African and British
fighter pilots.
Twenty-four Axis planes were snot down by the northwest African sir
forces yesterday. including 21 over the Gulf of Tunis. Of these. 12 were
Junkers-52's. In actions elsewhere in this raging aerial theater, 39 other
enemy plane have been brought to earth, boosting the two-day total
bag to 112.

WASHINGTON, April 20.— With U S. army airmen attacking Kiska
almost hourly between dawn and dusk, the military situation in the
Aleutians today moved toward a climax that may determine .soon
whether the Japanese will be able to get their new airfield into operation.
So far this month more than 50 raids have been carried out by
American flyers against Kiska, but the navy has given no indication
that the Japs have abandoned their plans to complete, landing strips on
the island.
Assault Increase
Since the intensified aerial offensive began March 1, the 'tempo of
the assaults' has increased gradually with the record series for a
single day being 13 attacks, or an average of One every hour of daylight
Several series of eight, nine and 10 raids in a day have been reported.
