MOSCOW, July 11.—(Saturday)—
(INS)—The battle of the
Don river expanded Into a
three-pronged Nazi offensive
early today as German troops
laid siege to Voronezh, captured
Rossosh on the Moscow-Rostov
railway and drove toward Lisichansk
on the Donetz river, only
140 miles northwest of Rostov.
The triple-pronged German of-
fensive seemed pointed now toward
Rostov, northern gateway to the
oil-rich Caucasus.

Route Is Scoured

CAIRO, July 10.—(AP)—Fierce
fighting broke out today between
British and Axis desert
forces on the Mediterranean rim
west of El Alamein in a renewal
of the battle for Egypt which
had been bogged down in an
uneasy lull 1'or more than a
week.
Tile new fighting erupted after
RAF and American planes were reported
to have destroyed or disabled
400 to 500 Axis vehicles out
of a concentration of 2.000 shutt-
ling forward to replenish Field
Marshal Erwin Rommel's thrust toward
Alexandria, 70 miles from the
front.

MOSCOW, July 10.—W—Soviet
bombing squadrons entered the battle
of the Arctic sea lanes today,
striking in force at Nazi airdromes
in Norway and Finland from which
swarms of German warplanes have
been raiding the U. S.-British convoys
bound for Russia.
The counter-action was in the
Barents sea area, where a Soviet
submarine commander this week reported
he had damaged the German
super-battleship Tirpitz and forced
it out of action against a big Allied
convoy.

CHUNGKING, China.. July 10.—
(INS)—Chinese troops have won a
victory at Changshu, 45 miles
southwest of Nanchang, and Japanese
troops are in flight eastward
in the direction of Linchwan. it
was officially announced tonight.
The recapture of Changshu followed
a similar victory at Tsungjoan.
70 miles south of Nanchang.
