American shock troops broke through the outer German . defenses of Cherbourg today and drove within a little more than a mile of. the city limits a front dispatch reported, adding that the fall of the city was considered imminent.
 Moscow, June 24—Red armies, clamping a siege arc two-thirds of the way around the White Russia fortress of Vitebsk, drove toward a junction today in the first. phase of an offensive on the same route that another Russian army took to Berlin 184 yours ago.

Rome, June 24 — American armored forces drove six miles through German mountain positions inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea and captured Roceuslradu,
threatening the flank of Nazi forces fighting a strong delaying action around Lake Transimeno to the east, it was announced today.

American shock troops broke through the outer German . defenses of Cherbourg today and drove within a little more than a mile of. the city limits a front dispatch reported, adding that the fall of the city was considered imminent.
One Infantry unit attacking from the south reached heights overlooking
Cherbourg with only slight enemy resistance.
The German defenses were undergoing a saturation bombing at 8 a. m., creating a virtual earthquake.
German troops were surrendering by the hundreds, and duringthe night they offered little artillery and small arms fire to impede the American advance lo the heights.

Lt. Gen. Stilwell's Chinese Chinese troops driving down the Hukang and
Mogaung valleys, seized a 150-mm rifle, believed to be the last of the Jap big guns In northern Burma. Two others were captured by the Chinese last week.
