German Bomber in Battle Over Iceland;
M'Arthur Blasts Jap Invasion Fleet

PLANE DRIVEN OFF, ESCAPES IN FOG BANK
REYKJAVIK, Iceland, May 3
. — (Sunday) — (U.R) — Army
headquarters announced today
that a German long-range
bomber had been damaged
and driven off by a Norwegian
plane in the war's first
aerial combat over Iceland.

Two Transports Hit; Planes
Smashed in Raid on Rabaul;
All Out Attack Is Imminent
GENERAL MacARTHUR'S HEADQUARTERS, Australia,
May 3.—(U.R)—Allied bombers raiding Rabaul on New Britain.
Island scored a direct hit on a Japanese transport, damaged
another, capsized an enemy tender and shot down two Japanese
fighter planes, Gen. Douglas MacArthur announced
today. Rabaul is on the northeastern arm of New Britain
Island in the Bismarck Archipelago, only 850 miles from the
closest point of the north-Aus-
.ralian coast.
The Rabaul raid extended to
a week the Allied aerial offensive
against Japanese invasion
bases over a 2500-mile front

Laval Confers With
Nazis as Result of
Growth of Sabotage

VICHY, May 2.—(UP)—Chief of
Government Pierre Laval was reported
conferring tonight with German
authorities
Nazi demands
at Moulins over
spreading outbreaks of anti-Nazi
terrorism and sabotage over large
areas of Occupied France.
