MOSCOW, July 5 (Sunday)
(UP).—The Russians acknowledged
a new retreat in one sector
of the 150-mile Kursk front
today where heavy battles raged
as masses of German tanks and
infantry pressed forward despite
losses of thousands of dead
and 550 tanks.
Violent fighting raged throughout
yesterday on the .Kursk front
north of Kharkov, a communique
said. "In one sector in this direction
our troops retreated and
occupied new positions.
The Russians also were continu-
ing to give stubborn battle in the
Volchansc and Belgorod sectors
northeast of Kharkov but there
were no changes on the rest of the
vast front

United States army bombers i
flying 300 miles an hour in day-1
light over the tree-tops of Hol-l
land ' b l a s t e d administration
buildings, personnel and grounded
airplanes at three German;
airdromes on this Fourth of
July morning in what was offi-
cially called the "beginning of
an attack that will make Ger-
many rue the day she plunged
the world into war.
