THIS WAS REPORTED TODAY SEPTEMBER 13, 1943:
Japan's highly prized Salamaucc airdrome on the northeastern New Guinea coast is in allied hands today and fall oi the grimly defended town of Salamaua itself appears imminent.

Adolf Hitler announced tonight that German parchutists and other Elite troops snatched Benito Mussolini from imprisonment today and thus "frustrated" a plan by the Pietro Badoglio government to turn the former Italian premier over to the allies for trial.

Sept. 13.—(Monday)—(INS)—
Japan's highly prized Salamaucc airdrome on the northeastern New Guinea coast is in allied hands today and fall oi the grimly defended town of Salamaua itself appears imminent.
Capture of the vital Salamaua airdrome by American and Australian jungle fighters was announced by Gen. Douglas Mac- Arthur in his morning communique, which also told of new allied successes across the Huon gulf at Lae, where approximately 20,000 Japanese troops have been trapped by MacArthur's encircling forces.

LONDON, Sept. 12.—(INS)—
