LONDON, Sunday, Sept. 5 (AP)—
Russian troops pursuing a battered Germany army retreating toward the Dnieper and Desna rivers yesterday
seized the rail heart of the Axis supply network in the Doneta basin in a 15-mile smash that imperiled the steel city of Stalino, Moscow disclosed early today. Stalino's fall was believed near with Soviet forces holding three railways leading into the city. 18 Miles From Stalino

Stores, Offices Here Will
Observe Labor Day
. Labor day, a national holiday created for the recognition of labor, will take a back seat to the war effort here Monday as production at all defense plants in this area goes on uninterrupted.
                                                      Stores, Offices To Close
Although industry will not observe the holiday, a "majority of retail b u s i n e s s establishments, along with county and city offices, will be closed for the day. Postal service will be curtailed, but one window for each type of service will remain open. Citypickup and delivery service will continue as usual, but rural delivery will be suspended for the day. Other federal offices will be open.
Labor unions have announced that plans for traditional Labor day celebrations will be deferred until after the war.
