WASHINGTON, ."Feb. 4—(U.P)—Reinforced Japanese airmen
have carried out a series of night raids ''on American positions
on Guadalcanal, the navy announced today.
The navy's communique announcing the raids shed no new
light on the series of air-naval engagements in the Solomons
area. It said merely that details of the actions will not be announced
so long as "such, information might jeopardize, the safety of our forces
in the area of operations."

HAMBURG BLASTED IN
THUNDERBOLT ATTACK;
20 ALLY PLANES LOST
LONDON Feb. 4.—(U.P.)—Flying Fortresses attacked targets
in Northwestern Germany today, a United States army air force
communique said.,Five,.of;.the:bombers were missing. Strong formations"
of enemy fighters were encountered.
LONDON, Feb. 4—(U.P.)—United'-States heavy bombers
flown by American crew carried out their second major raid on
tie reich today, bombing targets in Northwestern Germany.
The raid was the second American attack upon Germany in
eight days. United States planes raided the big German naval
base at Wilhelmshaven and Industrial targets at Emden and other
places in Northwest Germany on January 27 in their first assault on
German soil in this war.
