BANDOENG, Java—(By Telephone to New York) 10:30 p. m.
(11 a. m. CWT)— (#>)—An Allied counter stroke delivered"
against Japanese invasion forces wedging into Java was
declared officially tonight to have "developed satisfactorily" but
all details of the hard-fighting defense were kept secret.----

Air Force Is Now Separate Service Unit

Roosevelt ordered today
a streamlined reorganization
of the army, giving new recognition
to the importance of
the air forces.
