Naples (UP)—
American and French troops, moving forward along virtually the entire battlefront in Italy Sunday, extended gains made since the opening of the new Allied offensive up to sis: miles at one point, captured several important towns and cut the Germans' main lateral highway between Cassino and the sea, front dispatches said today (Monday)

LONDON (UP)—
Great Britain's home guard was warned officially and forcefully Sunday that the Germans may attack this country simultaneously with the Allied invasion of western Europe, and King George personally emphasized the warnings by reviewing "spare time army" men on the occasion of the fourth birthday of their corps.

ALLIED HEADQUARTERS,
Naples (UP)—
American and French troops, moving forward along virtually the entire battlefront in Italy Sunday, extended gains made since the opening of the new Allied offensive up to sis: miles at one point, captured several important towns and cut the Germans' main lateral highway between Cassino and the sea, front dispatches said today (Monday). 
The American and French advances came after British armored forces had driven a wedge nearly two miles deep in the main Gustav line defenses and threatened fep
turn the entire Cassino position. •'
The Germans had withdrawn, most of their forces and were offering
only slight resistance at Santa Maria , Infante.
U. S. Tanks Spur Drive .
South of the Liri, American tanks made a surprise appearance in support of French troops, and with their support the French registered substantial gains and over-
ran three towns. The French were bypassing small pockets of resistance in the mountains, but reported they took a good bag of prisoners and inflicted sharp -.causalities upon the enemy—both  of which must be considered among'
the important objectives :of the present offensive.

LONDON (UP)—
Great Britain's home guard was warned officially and forcefully Sunday that the Germans may attack this country simultaneously with the Allied invasion of western Europe, and King George personally emphasized the warnings by reviewing "spare time army" men on the occasion of the fourth birthday of their corps.
Lt. Gen. Sir Charles Lloyd, commanding the London district, said to the home guardsmen in a special order of the day: "Great events are facing you. Never before has the home guard been more necessary to the safety of the nation . . . the crisis of the war approaches."
 Warning by Field Marshal
It was made known that Field Marshal Lord Ironside, addressing home guards in Norfolk county Saturday, had said:
"There is no doubt that the existence of the home guards stopped the Germans from coming here. It is quite possible that when we make our great invasion the Germans will make some effort to land in this country. If so, I know the home guards will know how to deal with them, treat them like the vermin which they are. We have full confidence in you."
