nations stabbed at Japan's
thinly-spread legions on the
approaches to Australia and
the "down-under" continent
took another step in vital
preparations to meet an. attempted
invasion.

NEW DELHI, April 1 (UP)
Sir Stafford Cripps was unofficially
reported tonight to
have told the British cabinet
that a compromise giving Indians
a greater voice in direction
of home defense might
avert rejection of Britain's
plan for Indian independence.

(UP) — 'The motion picture, "Dr.
Kildares. . Victory, in which "actor
.Lew 'Ayres plays'. the leading
role, was suspended by the Fox
theatre today.
Protest against a film- starring
Ayres, who enters an Oregon camp
for. conscientious objectors today,
was so great that the management
said it was forced to withdraw the
picture.
