In the face of a sharply rising price in planes and men
the Japanese reported today that they, were pressing their
assault on the approaches to India, particularly the Ceylon
bulwark off southernmost India, where a continuing naval
attack was indicated.
Imperial headquarters at
Tokyo announced that naval
units had been battering at
Columbo, naval base-capital
of the large British-owned
island, since Saturday and had
inflicted heavy damage.
