Lt. Gen. Wainwrights American and
Filipino fighters were officially re-
ported mopping up pocketed Japan-
ese units which Thursday burst
through the two main lines; in two
heavy assaults. .

Nazi Planes Blast British Fleet Bases
Invasion Fears Bring Armada; France Raided
LONDON, April 3 (UP).—
Germany, apparently fearing
that a fleet was massing for a
British invasion of the continent,
attacked a long stretch of
the south and southeast coasts
in a powerful bombing raid
during the night.
Observers said that the fleet appeared
to be the biggest which had
ever attacked the coast by night.
{Berlin reported that Dover and
Portland were the chief targets.)
British planes bombed docks at
the French Invasion port of Le
Havre and fighters attacked enemy
airfields in occupied territory.
Practically the entire corner of
England nearest occupied France
was plastered with bombs.

Washington, April, 3. Lieut.
Gen. Jonathan M. Wainwright
sent no report this morning on
the progress of the battle of Bataan.
The latest advices from
the front late yesterday had told
how U. S.-Filipino forces had
stopped strong enemy assault.
