American-Filipino Forces Inflict Severe Losses
On Enemies; Yamashita Apparently Attempting
To Cut Defenders' Line, at No Matter What Cost
WASHINGTON, April 6 (AP)—The Japanese hurled
wave upon wave of assault troops at Lieut. Gen. Jonathan
Wainwright's American-Filipino forces Monday, and
gained ground in the third day of fierce fighting on the
Bataan peninsula.

(AP) — Congressman A. J.
May (D., Ky.), chairman of.
the Mouse military affairs
committee, declared Monday
that "When Gen. Short and
Admiral Kimmel come up for
court martial I'm in favor of holding
a shooting match.''
Then turning to newspapermen
seated on the stand from which
he addressed some 5000 Army Day
celebrants, he said "You can quote
me on that, and if it-gets back to
Washington, that will be all right
too."
Says Warning Given
May asserted that the deposed
commanders of American Army
and Navy forces in Hawaii received
repeated and ample warnings
to take every precaution because
war was imminent and that
they had not heeded these warnings.
