NEWDELHI, Dec. 19 (UP).—Gen, Sir Archibald Wave's
British imperial army was on the offensive along the roads
rivers of Burma today one year and four days after the
Japanese invasion that resulted in a complete British retire-
ment into India.

MOSCOW, Dec. 19.—(UP)—
Russian troops, battering
German lines in the middle
reaches of the Don river, 185
miles northwest of Stalingrad,
have captured 200 Inhabited
points, killed 20,000 Germans
and captured 10,000 others In
four days' lighting, a special
Soviet communique disclosed
Saturday night.

ALLIED HEADQUARTERS IN AUSTRALIA, Sunday, Dec.
20.— (AP) — The Allied ground troops in New Guinea have cap
tured Cape Endaladere, to the east of Buna village, and Fly-
ing Fortresses have sunk a Jap cruiser near Madang, Gen.
Douglas MacArthur's communique reported Sunday.
A third triumph announced was
the mopping up of enemy remnants
in the Amboga and Kumusi sector
some 40 miles above Buna, where
the Japs last Sunday achieved landings
despite bloody losses.

19.—(AP)—A part of the million-
man army of Gen. Sir
Archibald P. Wavell has
passed to the attack after
months of preparation and
has advanced about 40 miles
into Burma in the first phase
of an offensive to reopen the
Burma road to China.
