American troops have captured Cobwg, Reuters reported tonight. Coburg is 40 miles from the Czechoslovak border.

PARIS. — (AP) — The U. S.

Ninth army thrust to within 85 miles of Berlin at Wulferstedt today, captured the Krupp munitions capital of Essen and fought against an expiring German defense of Brunswick in swift-ranging armored advances.

The hell on wheels (2nd) armored division whipped across the north German

plain to within 25 miles of the Elbe river and the large city of Magdeburg, 65 miles from the German capital.

Doomed Vienna,

Invade Moravia

LONDON.—(AP)—

Russian forces completed the encirclement of Vienna and with tommy-guns and

grenades compressed the doomed nazi garrison into t h e  e a s t e r n one tenth

of the tottering Austrian capital, front dispatches to the Moscow press announced today.

These accounts also said that the right wing of Marshal Rodion Malonivsky's 2d Ukrainan army had invaded the central Czechoslovak province of Moravia at points less t h a n 35 miles from the great city of Bruenn (Brno).

Farther north, the Germans said other soviet forces, in an allout assault to reduce the Oder river fortress of Breslau, had stormed into Richthofen square in that Silesian city.

Defenders Pushed Back.

Inside Vienna the rag- tag nazi  force, including schoolboys, pilots and sailors fighting as infantry, had been pushed back on an island against the Danube by

Russian storm units sweeping forward in h a n d - t o - h a n d fighting.

Complete elimination of this enemy holdout group appeared likely in a matter of hours.

Reports Mass Murder

Of 5 Million Jews

Dr. Bela Fabian, president of the 'dissolved Hungarian independent democratic party, said in an' interview today that 5,000,000 Jews had been gassed and cremated at a murder factoory' ' ' a t Auschwitz, in upper

Silesia. (Auschwitz is t h e German name for Oswiecim, a town in southwestern

Poland already known as the site of perhaps the nazis' largest plant for the killing of great numbers of persons, chiefly Jews.

Some previous estimates of deaths at Oswiecim have run into the millions, but as far as can be learned immediately none was

quite so high as Fabian's. The dispatch, still incomplete, did not show so far upon what authority Fabian based his figures. There were less than 10,000,000 Jews in

all Europe, according to standard reference works).

Fabian said he was taken to Auschwitz 10 months ago with 500,000 other Hungarian Jews and that 400,000 were gassed and cremated in the first two months

and that only 1,000 remained alive.

Survival a 'Miracle.'

With Lt. Theodore Gutman of Los .Angeles, and Sgt. Siegmund Fuld, "New York City, acting as translators , Fabian told a story so. horrible as to be almost unbelievable.

Fabian said he could speak English but that he was so unnerved . . b y the ordeal of his detention that, he preferred to give the interview in German.

Fabian said the 5,000,000 murdered at Auschwitz included Jews from Belgium, Holland, France, Poland, Russia, Hungary and Greece.
